Dr. Nicholas Viyuoh Joins MDH OB/GYN

MACOMB, Ill. – McDonough District Hospital announced Dr. Nicholas Viyuoh (pronounced Vee-you), a Board Certified OB/GYN physician, joined the MDH Medical Group full-time on September 15.

Peter Rao, Vice President for the MDH Medical Group, stated the addition of Dr. Viyuoh will add to an already strong OB/GYN group of providers. 

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Viyuoh to McDonough District Hospital and the Macomb community. He is a Board Certified OB/GYN, his medical experience and broad-range of services offered will complement our great women’s health team,” said Rao.

Dr. Viyuoh joins Dr. Tamara Smith, Dr. Steven Coulter, and Certified Nurse Midwife Mary Thompson in providing OB/GYN services at the MDH clinic and Dolores Kator Switzer Women’s Center. 

He starts at MDH having worked the last 10 years in Oklahoma at Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon and Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.

Prior to his move to Oklahoma, Dr. Viyuoh worked for three years as the Chief OB/GYN at Lock Haven (PA) Hospital. He worked three years as a staff OB/GYN at Delta Regional Medical in Greenville, Mississippi. Spanning over four years, Dr. Viyuoh worked on the OB/GYN staff at Eglin Air Force Base and Shaw Air Force Base (Medical Director).  

A graduate of the University of South Alabama as an undergrad and from the College of Medicine, he interned at the Internal Medicine USA Medical Center. From 1995-99 he worked at the USAMC Department of OB/GYN in Mobile, Alabama and as a Resident OB/GYN at the University.

A member of the American College of OB/GYN providers, Dr. Viyuoh received an Air Force Commendation Medal in August 2002 and was selected the Best Oncology Resident in 1997-98.
