Carthage and Macomb, IL – Memorial Hospital is proud to announce an orthopedics partnership with McDonough District Hospital (MDH) and together they welcome Corey Welchlin, DO, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with more than 35 years of experience to serve patients in Carthage and Macomb.
Dr. Welchlin will see patients at Memorial Medical Clinic Carthage located at 1450 N. Co. Rd. 2050, Carthage IL. He will also see patients at MDH located at 525 East Grant Street, Macomb IL. Additionally, Dr. Welchlin will be performing orthopedic surgeries at both Memorial Hospital and MDH. To schedule an appointment at either location, patients may call 309-836-1999.
With a career rooted in rural healthcare, Dr. Welchlin has practiced orthopedics in community-based settings since completing his residency in 1990. He is board-certified and provides care to patients of all ages, including children. His clinical expertise includes surgical and non-surgical treatment of foot and ankle conditions, hand and upper extremity injuries, trauma, sports injuries, joint replacement of the hips, knees, ankles, and shoulders, as well as operative and non-operative spine care
A former high school runner, Dr. Welchlin’s interest in orthopedics began after experiencing a sports injury that was initially misdiagnosed. When he finally met with an orthopedic specialist who quickly identified the problem and explained the healing process, the experience left a lasting impression. That early encounter continues to shape his approach to patient care—listening carefully, explaining clearly, and helping patients understand what to expect throughout their recovery.
Through this partnership, Memorial Hospital and MDH are strengthening access to specialized orthopedic care close to home. Patients will benefit from comprehensive services ranging from sports medicine for high school and college athletes to advanced joint replacement and spine care.

Our joint recruitment of Dr. Welchlin with Memorial Hospital was the first time MDH has entered into an agreement such as this. To begin his tenure, he will be located in MDH three days a week and nights and weekends as needed, and at Memorial the remainder of the week. Hiring Dr. Welchlin will help fill a major healthcare need in our area. We know from our patients’ feedback how they wanted to have a local to Macomb orthopedic and now we can provide exactly that. Dr. Welchlin is accepting new patients and ready to get settled in here in west-central Illinois.”
