MACOMB, Ill. – As a result of collaboration between McDonough District Hospital and Blessing Physician Services, a pulmonologist is now available at MDH two times per month.

A pulmonologist specializes in the care of diseases affecting the respiratory system, including: asthma, bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Venu Reddy, MD, pulmonologist, Blessing Physician Services, is American Board of Internal Medicine-certified in Pulmonary Disease. He completed an internship and residency at Ohio Valley Medical Center and a fellowship at Albany Medical Center. Dr. Reddy joined Blessing Physician Services in 2006. His areas of interest include asthma, lung cancer and ventilator management.

“I especially enjoy treating asthmatics,” he said. “Often they come to me with a chronic cough or have had difficulty breathing for many months or years. It is great when they come back and are feeling so much better and are able to enjoy life.”

“According to the latest national statistics, there are fewer than 13,000 pulmonologists practicing in the country and most are found in urban areas,” said Brian E. Dietz, FACHE, president/chief executive officer, MDH. “Residents of the MDH region deserve convenient access to this specialty and the collaboration with Blessing allows us to provide that care in an effective and efficient manner.”

“Millions of people across the country and thousands in western Illinois suffer from respiratory diseases including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,” said Scott Koelliker, executive vice president, Blessing Physician Services. “Primary care providers do an outstanding job caring for these patients. However, some cases require a higher level of teamwork. Blessing Physician Services and Dr. Reddy are pleased to assist providers when needed in their care of residents in the MDH region.”

Patients may schedule appointments to see Dr. Reddy at MDH by calling his office at (217) 214-6267. More information regarding Blessing’s respiratory care can be found on

Last month, three Blessing Physician Services cardiologist began seeing patients at MDH as part of the collaboration between the two providers.
