MDH Laboratory Earns Accreditation Again from CAP

MACOMB, Ill. – Following a visit by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the McDonough District Hospital Laboratory earned another Accreditation based on the biannual on-site inspection.

The on-site inspection team included practicing pathology and laboratory medicine professionals. The United States Government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, which started in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.

MDH is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“Earning an Accreditation by the College of American Pathologists is a big honor, McDonough District Hospital is in elite company. We take pride in the work we do and services we provide the community,” said Brittany Doll, Leader of Laboratory. “This recognition reflects the entire staff and their hard work. We will not rest on the laurels of earning an Accreditation, we strive to constantly maintain a safe and properly functioning laboratory.”

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

“MDH Laboratory demonstrates leadership, innovation, and a passionate commitment to standards of excellence while providing the highest quality services, ultimately for patients,” said Bharati Jhaveri, MD, FCAP, chair of the CAP’s Council on Accreditation. “The CAP congratulates MDH Laboratory on its recent CAP Accreditation.”
