MACOMB, Ill. - The 2019 McDonough District Hospital Volunteer Recognition Dinner was recently held at the Spoon River College Community Outreach Center. The program consisted of MDH Volunteer Coordinator Meagan Wohlfeil, thanking volunteers and the Auxiliary to MDH members for their dedication and hours of volunteering the past year.

The evening also featured MDH President/CEO Brian E. Dietz, FACHE, giving an update on MDH and answering volunteers’ questions.

Auxiliary Board Treasurer Elisa Rasmussen shared the 2018-2019 Auxiliary budget and discussed the activities the MDH Auxiliary Activities Committee held in 2018 (Collective Goods Book/Gift Sales, Scrub Fair, Memorial Angel Tree, and Auxiliary Holiday Raffle).

The Auxiliary to MDH mission continues to be raising funds to support the MDH Auxiliary Scholarships/Loans program. The program started in March 1959 and in recent years has been able to provide $15,000-$20,000 in scholarships and loans each year to local students enrolled in programs leading to careers in health-related fields.

Currently, the Gift Gallery (located on the first floor of MDH) is the main source of funding for the Scholarship/Loans program. Since 2006, The Gift Gallery has donated over $200,000 towards the program.

Before the meal, Auxiliary Member/Volunteer Donnamae Hocker gave the blessing. MDH staff members: David Cady, Crystal Carson, Jill Cook, Brian Dietz, Mel Dorethy, Matthew Kessler, Kim McBride, Debbie Orton, Patrick Osterman, Sara Robertson, Debbie Runge-Ashby, Laurie Steinbrecher, and Barb Walters volunteered their time to thank and show appreciation to the volunteers by serving the meal.

The remainder of the evening consisted of entertainment from Ukulele Macomb who performed several songs and dances for the volunteers. To show appreciation to the Auxiliary members and Volunteers at MDH, appreciation gifts were also distributed to those in attendance.

At MDH, there are several areas in need of volunteers (BabyTALK, Reception Desk, Gift Shop, Hospice, etc.). If you are interested in volunteering at MDH, please contact Meagan Wohlfeil at (309) 836-1579 or by email at mmwohlfeil@mdh.org.
