MACOMB, Ill. – McDonough District Hospital employees have been looking ahead to the spring season and utilizing their respective “green thumbs” to prepare.
The Sustainability Group, made up of MDH employees from different departments in the hospital, sponsored a week-long Seed Swap program (March 9-13). Coworkers could bring in leftover seeds, leave them inside the MDH Market, and take seeds that others have donated to use in their gardens.
“Seeds are tiny promises of tomorrow – swap one today and watch a whole garden grow. Share a seed, grow a garden, strengthen a community, said Kyle Magee, a member of the Sustainability Group.
According to the group, seed sharing reduces waste, promotes biodiversity, and strengthens the workplace community. Whether you grow vegetables, herbs, or flowers, all employees were encouraged to participate.
About the MDH Sustainability Group: Your small changes make a big impact. Whether you're rinsing out a reusable container, watering your garden with rain barrel water, or sharing these efforts with coworkers — you're part of the solution. Questions or ideas?
