MACOMB, Ill. – McDonough District Hospital earned another “A” grade – its second consecutive - from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. The announcement was made on Thursday (November 13).
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries, and infections. Leapfrog evaluates more than 3,000 general hospitals nationwide.
MDH is one of 35 hospitals across the state of Illinois to receive an “A” grade for Fall 2025, and in a group of 31 hospitals to earn two consecutive “A” grades (Spring and Fall 2025).
This is the eighth time MDH has earned an “A” dating back to Fall 2017.
“We are excited to announce we received our second straight Leapfrog ‘A’ grade. We are in elite company, especially in our tri-state region, to receive this highly sought-after designation,” said MDH President & Chief Executive Officer Bill Murdock. “Receiving another ‘A’ grade is a testament of the dedicated staff members consistently providing the highest quality of care in a safe manner for patients. We are the only healthcare organization in McDonough County that provides critical care for all patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are proud to serve our communities, offering a wide range of cutting-edge testing capabilities and services so the patient doesn’t need to leave Macomb to meet their healthcare needs.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
