Macomb—At McDonough District Hospital, our primary goal has always been to deliver the highest quality care to our patients and the communities we serve. We continue to do that by adding 3D Mammography to our mammography suite.

One in eight women sometime in their lifetime are affected by breast cancer. It is the second most common cause of cancer related deaths among women, according to the American Cancer Society. Detecting cancer at an earlier stage will influence a women’s chance of survival. Mammograms play a significant role in the early detection of breast cancer because they can detect changes in the breast that may be early signs of cancer, but are too small or subtle to be felt. The use of 3D mammography has greatly enhanced the ability to detect breast cancer at the earliest stages.

Studies have proven that 3D mammograms find more cancers than traditional 2D mammograms and also reduce the number of false positives. The 3D mammography offers more accurate detection, earlier diagnosis, better detection in dense breast tissue, less anxiety by reducing false positives, and is more safe and effective for detecting breast cancer earlier.

Two important aspects make the MDH Mammography stand out above the rest, the technology and the experienced staff.

“What separates MDH from the rest in mammography is our professional mammographers are experienced, caring, compassionate and personable with over 25 years of experience. They always take the time to explain the exam with the patient, listen to the patient’s health history, answer questions or concerns, educate the patient regarding breast health and more importantly ease the anxieties a patient may have,” states MDH Leader of Radiology Tim Tyler.

To schedule a mammogram call the MDH Radiology department at (309) 836-1550. A physician order is not needed to schedule a mammogram if you are over 40; if you are younger contact your primary care provider and discuss getting your 3D Mammogram today.
