MDH Board of Directors Meeting Report

MACOMB, Ill. – The first McDonough District Hospital Board of Directors meeting in 2019, held Monday evening (Jan. 21), was an opportunity to officially welcome two new members. Macomb residents Dan O’Neill and Curtis Farr, MD, were appointed to the Board late last year by the McDonough County Board.

The two new MDH Board members replace Kent Slater (2007-2018) and Kenneth T. Wright, DVM (2010-2018). Scott Clauson, who was appointed last January to fill the final year of former Board member Crystal Bedwell’s term, was re-appointed by the County Board for a three-year term.

Dr. Farr, who is Board Certified in Family Practice with the Springfield Clinic, has practiced medicine locally for more than 20 years. He has held privileges with McDonough District Hospital since his arrival to Macomb. A graduate of The Chicago Medical School, he completed his Residency with the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. Farr is also a member of the McDonough County Medical Society.

“All of us are extremely pleased with Dr. Farr’s willingness to join our Board. Dr. Farr is deeply committed to his patients and this community. His expertise in care delivery and representing the interest and concerns of his colleagues will be extremely valuable as we tackle the present day challenges we are faced in healthcare delivery,” said MDH Interim President/CEO Brian E. Dietz, FACHE.

A local businessman, O’Neill co-owns Russell Grain, Inc. and Sports Corner @ 124. He serves on the State Bank of Industry Board of Directors. He is a graduate of the Macomb Police Department Citizens Police Academy and is an active member in the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce. In 2013, O’Neill received the prestigious Western Illinois University Honorary Alumnus Award.

“Dan O’Neill was another great appointment by the County Board to our Board of Directors. Dan has been very active in McDonough County for many years and is extremely well respected. His willingness to lend his time and effort to help shape a successful future for MDH will be welcome contributions,” said Dietz.

Clauson, who worked for nearly 40 years in finance, begins his first full three-year term. In 2018 he joined the MDH Finance Committee and MDH Foundation Board of Directors.

“Scott’s reappointment is much appreciated by the Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team. Having served out the final year of a former member’s term, and now beginning a new term of his own, Scott has already made a very noticeable difference in strengthening the Boards’ financial skill set to assure the proper oversight is provided to the organization’s financial operations,” said Dietz. “Chuck Butterfield and Scott Clauson are the foundation of our Board Finance Committee and will assure the necessary oversight is given to fulfill the Board’s fiduciary responsibility.”

Five members of the MDH Board are 13 months or newer serving. Though, according to Dietz the Board’s personnel represent a wide-array of experience which will benefit the organization.

“The composition of our Board of Directors is diverse and represents many different and important components of our community. We are very fortunate to have these high quality individuals contributing to our efforts to be successful in an extremely complex and challenging field.”

OFFICERS RENEW FOR 2019: In an unanimous vote, the MDH Board again selected Dr. Rick Iverson as Board Chair, Andy Baker as Vice Chairman, and Chuck Butterfield as Secretary/Treasurer.

DOLORES KATOR SWITZER WOMEN’S CENTER UPDATE: According to project manager David Cady:
- The current weather impacted the construction a little, as work will shift inside.
- Metal framing for the drywall will be installed soon as the whole interior area has been cleared out.
- The east side of the Dolores Kator Switzer Women’s Center has been already bricked, and Cady stated the bricks matched up well with the existing brick on the MDH building.
- The project timeline currently stands to submit for approval from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) in July.
