Visiting Hours

Visiting hours can be good medicine for patients. Family members and friends are welcome to visit; however, patient care is our primary concern at McDonough District Hospital, and, in order to enhance the quality of care, specific visiting hours and regulations have been established for each care area.

General guidelines for visitors:

  • Our facility is a smoke-free environment; therefore, no one is allowed to smoke in the building. There are designated smoking areas outside of the building. Please ask a staff member to direct you to the nearest smoking area.
  • Visitors are asked to dress appropriately by wearing a shirt and shoes.
  • No more than two visitors should be at the bedside at one time. We also request that visitors be considerate of both patients when visiting a semi-private room.
  • Visits should be kept short.
  • People with colds, sore throats, or any contagious diseases should not visit patients.
  • Visitors should maintain a quiet environment and avoid unnecessary noise.
  • Visitors may be asked to leave the room during tests or treatments or when the doctor or nurse needs to see a patient.

Condition Reports

Any personal information about the patient’s diagnosis and treatment must come from the patient’s physician, and this information is only available to members of the immediate family whom the patient has designated to receive it.

Gifts for Patients

We request that visitors check with the nurse before bringing gifts of food or drink to patients. Some patients may be on special diets ordered by their physician. On the Intensive Care Unit, please check with the nurse before taking flowers into the patient’s room.

Hospitality Home

The Larry T. Westervelt Home offers convenient, short-term accommodations in a relaxed setting for patient’s families. There are four bedrooms (including a handicapped accessible room), each with its own private bath. The home also features a great room that opens to a patio. There are kitchen facilities and a washer and dryer. Guests are encouraged to feel at home. A nominal fee is charged for these accommodations; however, we welcome all individuals in need, regardless of their ability to pay. For more information about staying at the Westervelt Home, please contact Advocacy Services at extension 3260, or ask any member of the MDH staff for assistance.
