Accommodations
Your
Room
Your room
assignment at McDonough District Hospital is based upon your
admitting diagnosis and the bed availability on the day of
your admission. Private and semi-private rooms are available.
Medical insurance usually does not cover the full cost of
a private room.
Your
Hospital Bed
Hospital
beds are electrically operated, and your nurse will show you
how to work the bed properly. Your hospital bed is probably
higher and more narrow than your bed at home. Bedside rails
are for your protection. They may be raised at night or during
the day if youre resting, recovering from surgery, or
taking certain medications.

Room
Temperature
All rooms
in the hospital have their own temperature control. If your
room is not comfortable, please notify the nursing staff.
Your
Meals
Wholesome,
nourishing, and well-balanced meals are an important part
of your treatment and recovery. McDonough District Hospital
makes every effort to provide nutritious meals that are prepared
according to your doctors orders. You will be served
breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Occasionally, meals may be delayed
if you are scheduled for a special test or treatment. Whenever
possible, you will be served after your test or examination.
Your breakfast tray will include a menu from which you can
choose your lunch, dinner, and breakfast for the next day.
Please mark your menu so it can be picked up with your tray.
If you have difficulty making menu selections, a member of
the nursing or dietary staff will be happy to help you. If
you are on a special diet prescribed by your doctor, you will
receive menus that are tailored to your specific needs.

Calling
Your Nurse
A button
to call your nurse is located on your bed control panel. When
you press the button, the nursing station is alerted that
you need assistance. A staff member will respond to your signal
as soon as possible.
During
the Night
Please
stay in bed after you have been prepared for the night. Strange
surroundings and sleeping medications may create a hazard
if you get out of bed. For assistance during the night, please
use your call button.
Television
Color
television sets are provided free of charge in each room,
except in the Intensive Care Unit. Please be considerate of
other patients by playing television sets softly and by turning
off your set at bedtime. In addition to many cable network
channels, McDonough District Hospital provides channels 5
and 23. You will find relaxing music on channel 5 and a variety
of health-related educational programs on channel 23.
