Providing Clinical Laboratory & Surgical Pathology Procedures

Located on the first floor of MDH, the Laboratory uses state-of-the-art technology to provide clinical laboratory and surgical pathology procedures that aid in diagnosis and treatment. Working closely with pathologists, the experienced MDH Laboratory staff takes pride in providing accurate information and timely results for patients and medical staff. Routine laboratory test results are typically available in the MDH Patient Portal within 24-48 hours.

Hours of Service

Public Laboratory hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Outpatient testing on Saturday and Sunday is from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the MDH Drive-Thru.

Patients must register in our Admitting/Registration Department before coming to the Laboratory for tests. Outpatient registration on the weekend is inside the MDH Drive-Thru.

Some specialty tests must be scheduled. Routine Urine Drug Collections are performed 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Pathology

Dr. Jennifer Jones was named Department Chairperson and Medical Director of the Pathology Department. Dr. Jones also oversees the Pathology support MDH receives from five Board Certified Pathologists representing the West Central Pathology Specialists group from Quincy, Illinois. This new construct will provide MDH with the highest level of Pathology expertise and support available while creating a staffing level commensurate with the needs of the organization and patients.

Accreditation

The MDH Laboratory is accredited by the Commission of Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP). During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff’s qualifications, the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and records, as well as the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for the laboratory’s patients. The MDH Laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide.
