MDH
Diagnostic Services include: Clinical, Anatomical, and Nuclear
Medicine procedures that aid in diagnosis and treatment. Technical
areas include: Nuclear Medicine, Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis,
Coagulation, Histology, Cytology, Microbiology, Serology,
Immunohematology and therapeutic treatment with radioisotopes.
The Laboratory also provides collection facilities for drug
testing to include DOT & non DOT collected specimens.
Diagnostic
exams are interpreted by in-house radiologists who are accredited
by the American College of Radiology.
Diagnostic
imaging services at MDH include:
- Angiography
- Magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnet and radio
waves to produce computerized images of the body's interior
to help diagnose health problems at their earliest, most
treatable stages.
- Stereotactic
Needle Core breast biopsy, which is an outpatient procedure
that uses 3-D mammography images to locate the nodule in
a breast. A needle is directed into the localized area to
obtain a biopsy for pathology.
- Digital
fluoroscopy projects an image of the body's internal organs
onto a large monitor. It is used to examine the colon, genitourinary
tract, kidneys, bladder and chest.
- Nuclear
medicine is the medical specialty that uses small amounts
of radioactive materials for diagnosis, and somewhat larger
amounts for treatment of diseases.

bone desitometry to evaluate osteoporosis.
- Mammography
- EKG
(Electrocardiogram) and stress testing are used to test
the heart.
- EEG
(Electroencephalogram) is a test used to measure the electrical
activity of the brain.

- Pulmonary
Function Testing
- Sleep
studies help to identify sleep disorders and help persons
to overcome them.
The MDH
Radiology Department is licensed by the Illinois Department
of Nuclear Safety, accredited for mammography by the American
College of Radiology and provides 24-hour services.
