Heart Attack Care

MDH Emergency Services in conjunction with Prairie Cardiovascular in Springfield, IL and Heart Care Midwest in Peoria, IL, provides a rapid treatment and transfer program for the treatment of a specific type of heart attack called ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI). The focus of this program is to provide rapid identification of this type of heart attack, provide stabilizing treatment and transfer to the patient’s hospital of choice in Springfield or Peoria where definitive treatment and care for STEMI. The goal is from the time you present to emergency department at MDH, you will be in a heart catheterization lab within 90 to 120 minutes. To achieve this goal, MDH Emergency Services works with several air ambulance (helicopter) agencies in the area to assist and to provide the most rapid and safest transport. This streamlined process in heart attack care is proven to improve heart attack outcomes. The quicker the blocked arteries can be reopened to provide blood flow to the affected area of the heart results in save heart muscle.
