The
Cardiopulmonary Department at McDonough District Hospital
provides services to evaluate, treat and care for patients
with breathing disorders. Patients who need care for their
breathing disorders may have chronic lung problems, such as
asthma, bronchitis and emphysema, but they also include heart
attack and accident victims; premature infants; and people
with cystic fibrosis, lung cancer and other associated diseases.
Cardiopulmonary
techs perform procedures that are both diagnostic and therapeutic.
Some of these services offered at McDonough District Hospital
include:
Diagnostic
Services
- Measuring
the capacity of the patients lungs to determine if
there is impaired function
- Studying
disorders of people with disruptive sleep patterns
- Cardiac
stress testing, echocardiograms, EKGs and other studies
of the cardiopulmonary system
- Non-invasive
(no needles) vascular testing of the arterial and venous
systems
Therapeutic Services
Assist
breathing and/or administer oxygen through highly sophisticated
equipment
- Provide
mechanical ventilation for treating patients who cannot
breathe adequately on their own
- Provide
therapy that will help a patient recover lung function
- Administer
medications in aerosol form to help alleviate breathing
problems and prevent respiratory infections
The Cardiopulmonary
Department boasts an ICAVL Accredited Vascular Lab, one of
the first 1,000 labs accredited in the US! Highly trained
individuals provide all services of the cardiopulmonary department,
most from your community.
