ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, WE’LL BE THERE…

This is the motto for EMS Week 2010 and it offers assurance to McDonough County residents that when problems develop, emergency responders will be there. There are paid providers in fire, police, dispatch, and EMS, in addition to volunteer responders who have regular jobs but still are ready to answer the call of need. The Illinois Department of Public Health recognizes EMS responders for 5, 10, 15, etc. years of service. This year the list is impressive.

That’s 370 years of service from 30 people. There are over 170 EMS providers in the county who are ready to respond at a minute’s notice for an emergency. Dispatchers, fire fighters, and police officers are involved in that response. Upon arrival to the emergency department, the ED physician is assisted by RNs, clerks, radiology, laboratory and respiratory techs. We have surgeons and other specialists available at a minute’s notice depending on the need. The list is endless because it’s difficult to predict what services will be needed for any situation. The word “emergency” is an unexpected occurrence that requires immediate action. Aren’t you glad there are trained professionals, ready and willing to respond? EMS week is May 16-22.  Take the opportunity to say thanks to your local emergency responders.
