AREA SPIRITUAL LEADERS ATTEND RECOGNITION LUNCHEON AT MDH
 
McDonoughDistrict Hospital hosted an appreciation luncheon, catered by MDH Food Services, for area spiritual leaders on May 5. Wanda Foster, RN, VP of Nursing, welcomed the group and gave an update on current MDH news and happenings.
 
Kelly Shiraki, CHES, Health Educator in Outreach Services, spoke to the group about available resources and ideas for supporting families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders. As a result of generous donations, each attendee received two reference books: “Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and Memory Loss—Straight Talk for Families and Caregivers” by Monica Vest Wheeler; and “You Are One of Us, Successful Clergy/Church Connections to Alzheimer's Families” by Lisa Gwyther.
 
Kassie Streveler, Social Worker for MDH Advocacy Services, was also a guest speaker, providing information and hands-on activities to enhance awareness about various hearing and vision impairments.
 
Also attending the luncheon was MDH staff who coordinated the event including Christy Beck, Director of Advocacy Services; Marcia McGrew, Director of Home Health/Hospice; and Rhonda Briney, Public Relations Assistant; as well as special guests Dr. Donald Dexter, retired physician and Chairman of the MDH Board of Directors; and Dr. Erica Rotondo, the most recent family practice physician to join the MDH Medical Staff.

During one disability awareness exercise participants tried to sort various colors of “medication” from a pill bottle while wearing special glasses portraying vision changes everyone experiences at some point in their lifetime.
