MDH Stroke Screening
McDonough District Hospital Outreach Services and Cardiopulmonary Department have collaborated to bring the community a high-quality, comprehensive stroke screening, including stroke prevention education. The next Stroke PLUS Screening will be offered on Thursday, March 26, from 8AM – 12PM in the Cardiopulmonary Department.
Stroke is the third leading cause of death and disability in this country, with 700,000 new strokes occurring annually. In addition, other vascular diseases, such as deep vein thrombosis blood clots and lower extremity arterial disease cause pain, disability, and death to millions of Americans. Through healthy lifestyle changes and early detection, these diseases can be prevented or treated successfully.
The Stroke PLUS Screening will provide non-invasive, painless tests that can quickly detect arterial abnormalities which can cause irregular blood flow leading to stroke, aneurysm and vascular disease. Tests and components included in the screening are: Cholesterol Test; Blood Pressure and Pulse Measurements; Carotid Duplex (screens for narrowing of carotid arteries); Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Ultrasound (used to visualize the existence of an Aneurysm in the abdomen); and Ankle Brachial Index (tests for arterial disease in the lower extremities).
Screening costs will vary depending on your choice of tests. A doctor's order is not needed to participate. Appointments are required. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact MDH Outreach Services at (309) 836-1584.
