Congratulations to Penny Lunt, Linen Lead in Linen Services, on being named the recipient of the MDH APPLE Award for June 2011. APPLE stands for "Achieving outstanding Performance in Patient care, Leadership, Loyalty and Enthusiasm for MDH."
Penny began her employment with MDH as an Aide in Linen Services on August 24, 1981. On March 1, 2008, Penny began working in her supervisory role in the department as the Linen Lead person. Penny has done a great job in leading the team in Linen Services, and she has great rapport with everyone in the department.
Penny does an excellent job determining the amount of linen to be processed daily, establishing priorities, and planning work schedules accordingly. She works diligently to maintain a very productive labor budget by maintaining an even workflow and making adjustments as necessary. She knows all aspects of the department and can do all of the various linen jobs. She is an outstanding leader for the group, leading by example with her strong work ethic. She goes above and beyond in all duties.
Penny has created an environment which fosters open communication, innovation, creativity, and team-building within the department. She analyzes and solves problems by exercising good judgment and making sound and well-informed decisions. Penny strives to reach agreements which are mutually beneficial and a win-win for all parties involved.
Penny is extremely deserving of this award and recognition. She gives high priority to customer satisfaction and service—she listens and understands the customers’ needs. She is a wonderful advocate for the department and the hospital. Her nominator states “Penny is hard-working and dedicated. She accommodates any request that I make with an assuring look and a confident approach. I am convinced the job will be done well when Penny is the one helping me with my request.”
Penny and her husband, Curt, have two children, Nathan and Brittany. In her spare time, Penny enjoys attending her children's activities and walking. Penny also owns a tandem bicycle that she enjoys riding with her husband.
