Located on the Third Floor of MDH
McDonough District Hospital (MDH) offers comprehensive wound, ostomy, and continence services through a multidisciplinary team approach.
Assessment and treatment are provided by certified wound ostomy continence nurses (CWOCN), registered nurses, and physical therapists.
These specialists collaborate with physicians and other members of the health care team to develop and implement a well-balanced and comprehensive plan of care for patients with wound, ostomy, continence, and pelvic floor problems.
A Continuum of Care
The specially trained staff at MDH provides wound, ostomy, and continence services with a physician referral in the following settings:

Inpatients who are admitted to MDH

Patients in the MDH Transitional Care Unit

Outpatients who are able to leave home and come to the Wound Ostomy Continence Clinic on the third floor of the hospital

Home Health Care patients
Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Services
Wound care nurses are available to provide specialized treatment and educational services for patients with the following conditions:

Diabetic foot ulcers

Continence Clinic
Continence Services and treatment for pelvic floor dysfunction are available to women, men, and children for evaluation and treatment of the following:

Pelvic floor muscle (PFM) dysfunction

Urinary incontinence
-
Pelvic floor muscle pain
-
Pregnancy / postpartum including rehabilitation of the pelvic floor

Prostatectomy incontinence
This program utilizes a combination of behavioral and physical therapies aided by state-of-the-art biofeedback and muscle management techniques. Biofeedback is computer technology allowing the patient to see their muscle activity displayed on a computer screen in order to more quickly learn the proper techniques to regain control.
Other treatments include instruction in the following:

Dietary and fluid management

Environmental and clothing modifications

Bladder retraining programs

Scheduled/prompted voiding

Clean Intermittent Catheterization

Containment and/or absorptive products and skin care.

The Wound Ostomy Continence Clinic is located on the 3rd floor of the hospital. Patients are referred to the clinic by a physician order.
