-
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is a research based, comprehensive cognitive-behavioral treatment designed to effectively reduce suicidal behavior, dropout from treatment, psychiatric hospitalization, substance abuse, anger, and interpersonal difficulties. DBT teaches skills to cope with stress, to manage emotions and to improve relationships with others.
-
Overcoming Codependency Group is designed to address the individual and relationship difficulties that often develop when a patient is focused on trying to change, fix or rescue another. Patients learn that the need to be a caretaker to others generally stems from a dysfunctional family of origin in which the individual's emotional needs are not met. Group participants are encouraged to continue relevant reading and attend Al-Anon to continue their growth and recovery after completing this 8-week group.

Substance Abuse Modules (SAM)
Substance abuse modules are composed of two core groups: Disease Management and Relapse Prevention.
Disease Management is an 8-week group that meets Mondays from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. This is an educational group that teaches about the disease of addiction and what can be done in order to best manage the illness. Topics covered in this group are the disease concept of alcoholism, what defines substance abuse and dependence, cross addiction, co-occurring mood disorders, post acute withdrawal symptoms, the stages of recovery, common defense mechanisms, common roadblocks to recovery, and the progression of relapse.
Relapse Prevention is an 8-week group that meets Thursdays from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. This is an educational group that focuses on awareness of relapse potential and preparation and planning to prevent relapse. Topics covered in this group are the cycle of relapse, stages of relapse, faulty thinking patterns that are associated with addiction, anger, recovery skills, strategies to cope with cravings, identification of high risk situations, road blocks to recovery, and identifying ways to spend free time without using.
In an effort to personalize the SAM program to each patient's individual needs, a variety of other groups can be incorporated as the patient and therapist see fit.
