Medical Explorers Learn About . . . Dentistry

Timothy R. Fitzgerald, DDS, hosted the Medical Explorers program Wednesday, October 24, at his dentistry office. Dr. Fitzgerald began the program talking about various areas of dentistry such as orthodontics, oral surgery, lab technology, and dental hygiene. He discussed the educational requirements and recommended to students classes to take while in high school. Dr. Fitzgerald showed the students crowns, bridges, implants, and dentures. Students were offered a variety of hands-on activities.

Dr. Fitzgerald explains the anatomy of a tooth before talking students through some steps involved in a root canal. Explorers also took x-rays of the teeth on which they performed the root canals to see their work.
