About Us

McDonough District Hospital is centered in Macomb, Illinois, home to NCAA Division I Western Illinois University and Spoon River College. Macomb offers area residents numerous cultural, academic, and recreational venues. McDonough District Hospital has been a source of healing, caring, and hope since we opened our doors to the people of western Illinois in 1958. Through the years, we have continually expanded our high quality services for people at all stages of their lives. Today, MDH is a 48-bed health care facility providing an impressive spectrum of advanced medical treatments and personalized health services. While our services have advanced, our commitment to providing health care in an atmosphere of compassion and caring has remained constant. Our providers, nurses, and staff offer patients and their families continuity of care while remaining close to home.

MDH is accredited by The Joint Commission and is a member of the Illinois Health and Hospital Association. The most recent accreditation occurred in January 2023 and MDH scored a 99% during the review process.

McDonough District Hospital earned its third consecutive “A” Grade for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group. This national distinction for Fall 2022 celebrates MDH’s achievements in protecting hospital patients from preventable harm and error. MDH was part of the 29 percent nationally earning an “A” grade in Fall 2022.

Only 23 hospitals in the state of Illinois earned three consecutive “A” grades over those three grading periods (Fall 2022-Spring 2022-Fall 2021). In fact, MDH ranked among the 20 percent of hospitals nationally to score three straight A’s. This marks the second time that MDH has earned three consecutive “A” grades in recent years (Fall 2017-Spring 2018-Fall 2018). MDH has scored A's and B's in all grading periods over the last several years.
