New Artists Featured in MDH Front Lobby Exhibit
Macomb -- The McDonough District Hospital front lobby art provided by Western Illinois University Art students and graduates now features works by Janice Rockwell and Dean M. Rockwell of Macomb. Dean, a retired high school biology teacher, has his ceramic work featured in the glass case. “I prefer to create unique, one of a kind pieces. This gives the work a fresh and eclectic feel that reflects my love of fun, learning and experimentation,” states Dean. His work can be found in galleries and shops throughout Illinois and Iowa as well as private and public collections, including the WIU Library.
The paintings featured in the front lobby are by Janice Rockwell, alum of Western Illinois University. “I am constantly striving to grasp the essence of an image or idea through a variety of 2-D media, be it oil paint, watercolor, encaustic or mixed media, I lose myself in the manipulation of the pigment as I explore value, structure, and color in my expression,” stated Janice.
The purpose of the art exhibit in the front lobby is to provide a welcoming visual respite to visitors as they enter the hospital. The works of Western’s students, alumni artists, and faculty will be exhibited. Appropriate selections from the WIU Gallery will also be exhibited.
