More Than 170 Participate in Tevar Event To Support Cancer Programs


MACOMB, IL – More than 170 individuals participated in the October 6, 2012 McDonough District Hospital Dr. Dinesh Tevar 5K run, 1-mile run/walk, raising approximately $6,000 to benefit cancer education & screening and Linda’s Fund. The run/walk was held in conjunction with the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Development Corporation’s (MACCDDC) Breast Cancer awareness events.

In the 5K competitive run Dr. Shea Trost was the overall male top finisher with a time of 19:20. Katilyn Ramey completed the course in 23:22 for the best finish by a female participant overall. First place in other age divisions for men were; Michael Thompson , 20-24; Jon Zurek, 25-29; Scott Lawson, 30-34; Dan Clark, 35-39; Dave Arnold, 40-44; Chuck Aleshire, 50-54; Brad Bainter, 55-59; Wayne Ridle, 60-64. For women the top finisher by age group were; Alexis Mazzini, 15-19; Stacie Van Loan, 20-24; Rachel Ginsberg, 25-29; Susan Spier, 30-34; Deborah Collins, 35-39; Amy Spelman, 40-44; Melanie Falk, 45-49; Linda Kline, 50-54; and Betsy Hommel, 60-64.

In the one mile run, first place went to Nicole Protsman with a time of 10:00. More than 85 individuals walked one mile or more of the course.

The run/walk was initiated in 2006 to honor Dr. Dinesh Tevar, a general surgeon who served on the MDH Medical Staff for many years before passing away in 2003. The Tevar family has supported the event as a way to recognize their father’s compassion for Macomb and MDH.

A committee of volunteers, with the support of the MDH Fund Development Office, the Macomb Road Runners, and Western Illinois University’s Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority conducted the Tevar Run/Walk. For more information, contact the MDH Public Relations and Fund Development Office at (309) 836-1557.
