Macomb—The walk-in entrance for Emergency Services at McDonough District Hospital has been relocated to the hospital’s main entrance beginning Tuesday, April 29. The change will be in effect during the Emergency Services Expansion project currently underway. The $32 million project is scheduled for completion in late 2015.

Ambulance access will continue at the west side of the building during the construction. Traffic to the hospital entrance and health services buildings will have to exit through the main entrance during the construction of a new three story addition at the west side of the building.

The heliport pad has been relocated to the south end of the hospital campus. Infrastructure improvements continue and new parking construction is underway towards the main entrance and in the prior heliport location.

“All hospital operations will continue during the improvements in the months ahead. Our staff at MDH thanks our patients and the public for their patience as we make these facility upgrades to provide the very best health care environment to serve our patients and the community,” said President/CEO Kenny Boyd.

The Emergency Services expansion will include: 10 large private emergency treatment rooms, direct access to diagnostic technology and a comfort room for families in a crisis situation. Along with the changes to the emergency services area, renovations will be made to current rooms on the second and third floor to private single patient rooms. Rehabilitation Services will be relocated from the lower level of the current building to the third floor of the new addition. Construction of a geriatric psych wing will be on the second floor of the new addition, subject to State approval.
