August 2007
Deb Pollock
Administrative Care Manager, Home Health
Please join me in congratulating Deb Pollock, Administrative Care Manager, Home Health, on being named the recipient of the MDH APPLE Award for August 2007. APPLE stands for "Achieving outstanding Performance in Patient care, Leadership, Loyalty and Enthusiasm for MDH."
Deb worked at McDonough District Hospital from July 30, 1984, to January 1, 1993 as a Registered Nurse in several areas including Acute, Telemetry, Intensive Care, and Emergency Services. She left MDH for a short time and returned as a float nurse on July 28, 1994. In May 1995, Deb began working in Home Health as an RN. She began her current role as Administrative Care Manager for Home Health in June of 2002.
Deb is an excellent educator and a strong clinical nurse. Other nurses in Home Health and Hospice frequently tap Deb's knowledge on patient care issues, computer software and laptop problems, OASIS, and difficult lines or ports. She is very proficient with the computer, and Deb often helps with performance improvement efforts. She thinks things through and pays attention to detail. Deb often lends her expertise to the staff caring for the very complicated and sick patient.
Deb has taken on more leadership duties in the past year and has been instrumental in the implementation of the electronic documentation system. She has good knowledge of the big picture and takes a holistic approach. She demonstrates the ability to stay calm even during difficult situations. She is quick to give compliments to staff and to encourage them. Deb is an excellent role model and resource nurse. Often on a busy day, Deb will provide patient care, take physician orders or referrals, help her co-workers, help lab by drawing blood from a line or port, and encourage her patients and co-workers.
Deb is well-received and respected by her peers, physicians, and patients. Her patients often report they look forward to her visits, her calm personality, and her smile. Patients feel comfortable and confident with Deb. She is very sensitive to emotional needs or factors affecting care and is an advocate for the patient. Her excellent clinical nursing skills and compassion for patients make her an asset to Home Health, Hospice, and MDH.
Deb enjoys sewing, reading, and spending time with her nieces and nephews. Deb recently returned from a vacation with her nieces and nephews where one of their stops on the trip was Graceland.
