Mary Flanagan
Cook in Food/Nutrition Services
Congratulations to Mary Flanagan, Cook in Food/Nutrition Services, on being named the recipient of the MDH APPLE Award for October 2007. APPLE stands for "Achieving outstanding Performance in Patient care, Leadership, Loyalty and Enthusiasm for MDH."
Mary began her employment at McDonough District Hospital as a Food Service Aide on January 17, 2006. In September 2006, Mary became a Cafeteria Aide while cross-training to other jobs in the department. As of this month, Mary's primary role for the department is working as a Cook.
Mary is a leader. She strives to be a good role model and a strong preceptor for her co-workers. Her co-workers frequently go to Mary for answers to their questions. She is a quick learner and is always taking on more job responsibilities. She strives to continuously learn more jobs and does a great job on new recipes for the cafeteria menu. Mary frequently anticipates problems that might arise and corrects the situation before it becomes a problem.
Her quality and quantity of work is excellent. She strives for perfection and wants things to be done right the first time. She does a wonderful job preparing for special events. Mary also works well under pressure even when there is a rush of customers in the cafeteria.
Mary has a great attitude and always displays a smile. She gets along great with all of her co-workers. She is a team player who is always willing to help out. She has a wonderful attitude with a very laid-back approach. Mary is continuously positive and cheerful, and she goes out of her way to lift others' spirits.
Mary is a great asset to MDH. One of her nominators states that, "Mary is so positive. She is a delight to be around. She has learned almost every job in the department which makes her invaluable. She is truly a team player and is always willing to help others as needed. Mary exhibits all of MDH's core values in an exceptional way."
Mary and her husband, Steve, have two daughters, Staci and Kimberly. In her spare time, Mary enjoys attending her daughters' sporting events and exercising. |
