Congratulations to Angela Martin, Nurse Assistant in Acute Care, on being named the recipient of the MDH APPLE Award for September 2007. APPLE stands for "Achieving outstanding Performance in Patient care, Leadership, Loyalty and Enthusiasm for MDH."
Angela began her employment at McDonough District Hospital as a Nurse Assistant in Acute Care on February 6, 2006. She earned her certification for Nurse Assistant through Spoon River College. She has also cross-trained as a Unit Secretary for the department.
Dependable is a word commonly used to describe Angela. She works extra shifts when needed and will do so for all three shifts. She is a hard worker and seeks out work to do. She has a talent for seeing just what needs to be done and then doing it. Angela is always willing to help out wherever help is needed. She goes above and beyond her assigned duties.
Angela is a great team player and provides great care to our patients. She has a terrific sense of humor and is a joy to work with. Coworkers agree that, when Angela is caring for their patients, they can depend on her to report changes immediately. She is well organized and a true leader.
Her healing smile is a great attribute. "Angela is always kind to her patients and has a smile to offer to them," states one of her nominators. Another nominator comments on her smiling face, too, by remarking that the first thing you notice when Angela walks into the room is her wonderful smile. Because of the impact Angela has on her patients, most of them take the time to remember her by name. Patients love her!
"Angela is one of the best nurse aides we have the pleasure working with," states another nominator. "One of her great attributes is how she can make an agitated patient relax and smile. Her skill and demeanor can heal in a way that medicine cannot. She does those extra things that make a patient feel better. You can tell Angela loves helping others and enjoys her job by simply watching her perform her job. She is always smiling and acknowledges everyone around her. Angela is an amazing coworker!"
In her spare time, Angela enjoys spending time with her son, Caleb, fishing, shopping, and watching football.
