Congratulations to...Marty Thurman , Pharmacist , on being named the recipient of the MDH APPLE Award for January 2008. APPLE stands for "Achieving outstanding Performance in Patient care, Leadership, Loyalty and Enthusiasm for MDH."
Marty joined MDH on May 16, 2005, after completing 30 very successful years in retail pharmacy in the Roseville and Monmouth area. Marty is very proud to be a Pharmacist; he stays abreast of new trends in Pharmacy; and he takes pride in maintaining a professional appearance. Marty demonstrates that he wants to learn and be involved with every aspect of the Pharmacy. He doesn't shy away from any task and is not afraid to ask questions.
Marty is always helpful and pleasant to all patients and families. He maintains the same positive attitude when dealing with nursing staff and working with Pharmacy staff. Marty always arrives at work in a good and friendly mood. He enjoys interacting with others and has garnered a lot of trust and confidence from the nursing staff.
One of Marty's nominators told us that "Marty is a pleasure to work with. He is always friendly, and very professional. He is a great Pharmacist and I am glad to be able to work with him. He is very helpful and always takes time to help us answer any questions that we may have. Marty is very kind and considerate of the nursing staff. If he is unsure regarding an order or protocol, he does not hesitate to ask questions. He is a joy to work with. He is always pleasant, very thorough, and does a great job."
Marty and his wife, Gloria, enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren. Marty enjoys boating and water sports. He also likes to run and participates in the annual Bix 7 running event each summer in Davenport, Iowa. As a graduate of the University of Iowa, Marty remains an avid fan of the Hawkeys. He also is a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan.
