Congratulations to Leandra Deitrich, Certified Nurse Assistant in Home Health and Hospice, on being named the recipient of the MDH APPLE Award for January 2007. APPLE stands for "Achieving outstanding Performance in Patient care, Leadership, Loyalty and Enthusiasm for MDH."
Leandra began working for Home Health and Hospice on December 27, 2004, and she loves her job! She approaches her job with enthusiasm and dedication. She is willing to go that extra mile for clients and staff, and she never hurries a patient. She strives to always make each of them feel he or she is her only patient for the day. Her great sense of humor is an asset. Her patients often mention her by name as providing excellent care, and the pride she has for her job and the care she gives is apparent in everything she does.
Good communication is vital in her field, and Leandra demonstrates strong skills in that area. She takes concerns directly to her supervisor or the nurse. She speaks up on issues of concern and discusses things openly and considers other points of view during staff meetings. Leandra listens effectively to her patients and tries to make a difference by meeting their special needs.
Her co-workers respect Leandra, and she is appreciated by them. They know that she goes above and beyond to make a difference in her patients' daily lives, and they state they would love to have her as their aide if they needed care. Her bubbly personality and smile gives some of her patients the lift that they need. Her patients are comfortable with her and can speak openly to her.
Her nominator states Leandra comes to work with a smile and cheerful attitude each and every day. "She is like a breath of fresh air when she comes into the office." She is flexible on her schedule, working whenever needed. She goes beyond the call of duty when caring for her patients. She loves them all, and they love her! She treats all of them as if they were her family. The nominator continues on by simply saying,"Leandra is a joy to work with. There are not enough words to describe how great she really is."
Leandra and her husband, Jamie, have one daughter, Shelby. In her spare time, Leandra enjoys scrapbooking, watching rodeos, and outdoor activities. Leandra also likes to be a hostess and plan parties, and she is a beautician and enjoys pampering others.
