Jessica Kreps
Phlebotomist in the Laboratory
Please join me in congratulating Jessica Kreps , Phlebotomist in the Laboratory , on being named the recipient of the MDH APPLE Award for March 2008. APPLE stands for "Achieving outstanding Performance in Patient care, Leadership, Loyalty and Enthusiasm for MDH."
Jessica began her employment at McDonough District Hospital as a Nurse Assistant in Acute Care on July 8, 2002. On September 9, 2003, Jessica transferred to her current role as a Phlebotomist in the Laboratory.
Jessica has a wonderful heart, and her patients are always a priority for her. She is the WOW in customer service. Jessica goes above and beyond to help others. She is very pleasant and clearly explains procedures to patients. She is a good-natured person who always has a smile to share. She is a genuine joy to be around.
As patients return to the Laboratory for additional blood draws, many will ask for Jessica to assist them because of the impact she made on them in past visits and due to her high skill level. When she draws blood from our oncology patients, she is especially gentle and compassionate. She understands that these patients already are going through enough without having the additional burden of a painful blood draw experience. She also consistently calms the nerves of many of our patients who are intimidated by the blood draw experience.
Jessica is the primary mentor for new employees in the Laboratory. She is very patient with the employees and continually encourages them to boost their confidence as they are learning their new jobs. She has strong phlebotomy skills and is willing to perform other duties as needed, including assisting the office staff.
Her nominators made several general comments, such as the following, acclaiming Jessica on a job well done: She is very compassionate and caring with all patients and very good at her job. She is dependable and remains calm under pressure. She is a very hard worker and takes pride in her job. Jessica demonstrates team spirit by always offering to help someone if she can. She continually tries to improve her job knowledge and is superior in her phlebotomy skills. She expresses compassion for her patients and coworkers. “To sum it up, Jessica is someone I look forward to working with!” states one of her nominators. Another nominator added, “She is an excellent choice to represent the hospital as an Apple Award Recipient.”
Jessica has one son, Bradyn. In her spare time, Jessica enjoys taking care of the animals on the farm. She also enjoys going on walks and spending time with her son.
